My Students

Great news! We need harder books! My students love to read! This year we have had TREMENDOUS reading gains in our class. I am so excited. We got a bunch of great, high quality books and have been spending a lot of time on literacy. It's so exciting to see the kids get excited about reading.

The students in my classroom are kind and generous.

They love to read and write! With their creative imaginations, my students enjoy making up poetry, songs, rhymes, and raps. I team teach with another teacher - she does math and science and I do reading and writing. Your donation will benefit two classes of kids! We have a super nice, very diverse group of kids. Populations include: Somali, Ethiopian, African American, Hispanic, Caucasian, Burmese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Native American and Nigerian. About half of my students speak second and third languages, some students receive special education services, and all of my students set high goals.

My Project

My class has had very exciting gains in reading this year and I suddenly find that I need HARDER books! I want to keep these kids challenged and keep their enthusiasm up. High interest non fiction books are very popular, so I'd like to have a collection of these. The great thing about nonfiction books is that they do double duty - kids learn about another topic WHILE they learn to read.

With past donations of books from Donors Choose, I was able to expand and improve my classroom library.

It is so exciting to see how much kids love to read when they have access to great books, and how much they improve. I hope to keep this going as they become better and better readers. Loving to read is something that will benefit them their whole lives. Thank you so much.
