My Students

New experiences are a prerequisite for growth and essential to a developing mind. Affording students the opportunities to experience new and fun adventures broadens their horizons while teaching a love for learning itself. Seeing a student's eye light up when they find something new they enjoy is magical.

These are the very things that make me realize how much I love teaching.

My class ranges from about 12 to 15, 6th through 8th grade students with mild disabilities (emotional, learning, and intellectual) and Autism. They are fantastic kids with a love for learning. Let's celebrate neuro-diversity through giving them access to educational experiences!

My Project

Funding this field trip will allow my students to have an authentic Charleston experience with a Charleston native. Most of the students in my classroom have never before been fishing, shrimping, or crabbing despite living only a few miles from the Ashley River. They will learn how to throw a cast net, use a fishing pole, and crab using traps and lines.

By building a classroom that values the human experience, we can create spaces for possibility and deeper meaning for students, for people, and for ourselves.

These experiences are what students will build upon as they become life long learners supported by not only teacher, but amazing people in the community as well.
