This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very sweet. They love to be together in class to have fun. However, when we are apart, we like to keep in contact on the internet.
Many of them have to borrow technology from school in order to access virtual learning.
Many of them are often home alone trying to manage their school work while babysitting younger siblings. They have a lot of responsibilities and they work hard to manage them all.
My Project
As this year is starting non-traditionally, I would like to utilize the mail to encourage and cheer up my students. Each student deserves a special card on his or her birthday. Also, I would like to give each student a class pet (a little figure) that can become their writing partner. The color coding allows for grouping even as we distance and it is a small way to bring fun to their homes.
In addition, students will need encouragement.
A simple card in the mail can cheer anyone up. I want my students to know I am thinking about them even when I am not with them. I can display stickers in virtual class as rewards for students to earn. Think of the pride a student will have for working hard for a sticker that shows up in the mail.
It's the small things in life that can get us through this tough time. These simple things will be reminders that we are still connected even when we are physically apart.
