Our last day in the classroom was Friday, March 13. I had many students not attend because that's when the news of COVID-19 was starting to get big and parents were starting to keep students out of class. We already knew that day that we would be out two weeks with Spring Break and an extended week, but it was soon after Spring Break started that our school was closed indefinitely. A week ago, our Texas governor closed schools for the rest of the 2019-2020 year, and we have been having At Home Learning since April 6. We are unsure if we will be going back in August to actual classrooms or if we will still be doing online classes.
My Project
This is the second project to help me send some happy mail out to all 80 of my students. We have many students living with relatives right now and scattered throughout our district, so the mailing supplies will allow us to get our happy mail out to all our students in a timely manner.
Many of my students love to write and free draw.
The journal books will allow our students to continue to express themselves through their writing and drawing. Plus, you cannot have a journal without a good writing utensil. The mechanical pencils I have chosen are my students' favorite.
I hope that this gift will encourage them to keep learning and let them know we are thinking about them a lot and that we miss the time we would have had together these last two and a half months of school. I hope this project will be able to supply 30 more of my wonderful 6th graders with some "Happy Mail".
