My Project

Our students are curious, energetic, creative, and full of stories of their own. They love discovering new things, sharing what they know, and finding books that make them laugh, wonder, and imagine. As their school librarian, I want every student to experience the excitement of finding a book that makes them say, “I want to read this!”

BOOKOWEEN was a student’s idea that I knew had to be brought to life!

Instead of candy, students will receive a brand-new book of their very own to take home and keep. For many of our students, having a new book that belongs to them is a special experience. We want to make reading feel just as exciting as trick-or-treating!

The books purchased through this project will give students the opportunity to choose a book that interests them and build a personal home library. Choice is an important part of developing lifelong readers because students are more likely to read when they are excited about what is in their hands. The books will also encourage students to practice reading outside of school, strengthen vocabulary and comprehension, build background knowledge, and develop a positive identity as readers.

Most importantly, BOOKOWEEN sends students an important message: You are a reader, your interests matter, and you deserve a book of your own.

We hope to turn Halloween into a celebration of something that lasts far longer than candy—a love of reading!
