Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are incredible. I have twenty-four motivated English Language Learners who are eager to learn. My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds with limited resources available to them. We are a Title I, Performance Improvement School with a one hundred percent free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support their families.
Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, my students have an insatiable love of learning.
I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.
My Project
A birthday should always be a special day for anyone no matter what age you are. It’s sad to say that some of my 2nd graders have NO idea when their birthday is.
Every Monday our school celebrates any student whose birthday falls on that particular week.
The entire school sings and they receive a pencil. Sometimes that’s the only way they know it’s their birthday week.
I want their birthday to be extra special by giving them a gift of a book. They will get to choose any book that peaks their interest. They will be practicing their fluency while also having a book to take home. I will also have them wear a special crown and give them either a bracelet, car, or ring. Let’s help celebrate their birthday and make them feel special and loved.
