This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school's extended day provides our students with more time to work on their academic progress which is wonderful! However, I have noticed that many students get burnt out and are hungry prior to our lunchtime. My goal is to keep them engaged but this is hard to do when they are hungry. Many students suffer from food insecurities.

My students are very hard workers and deserve a snack and a few minutes of downtime before continuing to learn.

The break also provides me with an opportunity to converse with my students. We get to know each other better as people. This is one of my favorite parts of the day because I can access their social-emotional need and develop a positive classroom community!
