Because of your funding, I was able to provide hands-on counseling materials that helped my students better understand their emotions and feel more supported during challenging moments at school.\r\n\r\nMany of my students come to counseling carrying big feelings such as anxiety, frustration, or uncertainty. The materials you helped provide allowed me to teach coping, regulation, and problem-solving skills in ways that felt engaging and safe. Students were able to express themselves more openly, practice calming strategies, and build confidence as they learned how to navigate their emotions.\r\n\r\nYour support also allowed me to deepen my work in both individual and small-group counseling sessions. I saw students become more comfortable sharing, more willing to try new strategies, and more proud of their progress. Teachers noticed students using these skills in the classroom, which reinforced their learning and supported their overall success.\r\n\r\nI am truly grateful for your investment in my students. It feels like magic when we use the color changing feature and their creations light up and switch colors and hues. It makes such an exciting difference when students can see the lights coming together to mix new colors - for example when the blue lights turn the yellow tiles green, and they can touch the tiles on the table, than if we were just watching a video. Students get visibly excited, clap their hands, and giggle when we use the tables and it just brings so much joy to our classroom. This student often struggles with fine motor coordination and focus, spent nearly 10 uninterrupted minutes exploring the latches and switches on the busy board. As he mastered how to unlock each one, his confidence visibly grew. You could see the pride on his face every time something clicked open.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new toys—especially the busy board, alphabet puzzles, and painting activities—their faces lit up with curiosity and excitement. Some ran straight to explore the colorful pieces, eagerly touching every part of the busy board, flipping switches, turning knobs, and opening latches with wide eyes and big smiles. Others were drawn to the alphabet puzzles, quickly picking up letters and proudly naming them or finding the ones that matched their names.\r\n\r\nAs we continue building on foundational skills in our OT sessions, the next steps for our students involve using these materials—theraputty, adapted scissors, Spot It, paint, and puzzles—in more intentional, skill-focused ways. With theraputty, we will strengthen fingers through pinching, rolling, and hidden object games to support handwriting and self-care tasks. The adapted scissors will be used to progress from snipping to cutting shapes to improve hand coordination and visual tracking. Games like Spot it will allow students to build visual attention, quick thinking, and social skills like turn-taking and focus. The paint will be used to encourage creative expression while improving grip and control. Puzzles allow for developing problem-solving, visual-spatial skills, and perseverance with more complex puzzles.","fullyFundedDate":1758863224239,"projectUrl":"project/multi-sensory-learning-for-ot-kids/9638274/","projectTitle":"Multi-sensory Learning for OT Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Ma","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10213619_orig.jpg?crop=4281,4281,x0,y713&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755797048373","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10213619"},{"teacherId":8285102,"projectId":9452283,"letterContent":"The puppet show made a wonderful impact on my Kindergarten 1 students. Many of my students were talking about the characters and retelling parts of the story for days afterward, which showed how deeply the performance stuck with them.\r\n\r\nThe show also supported their learning in meaningful ways. My students practiced listening and comprehension as they followed the storyline, and they picked up new vocabulary and expressions from the characters. Socially and emotionally, the puppets modeled kindness, problem-solving, and friendship, which helped spark class conversations about how we treat one another.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the puppet show encouraged creativity and imagination. After the performance, my students were eager to create their own puppet voices, act out stories, and even use classroom toys to \"put on shows\" for each other.
