Making music together builds a sense of belonging in our classroom community and helps children form social bonds. We are seeing improved behavior as children learn to move to the beat and follow cues about when to stop and go. The children are learning to recognize and repeat patterns, increasing their memories, forming neural connections, improving sound awareness, and laying the groundwork for numeracy and literacy. \r\n\r\nWe have added a music center to our classroom where small groups of children can explore sound and rhythm during choice time. \r\n\r\nThis week, I was especially excited to watch a non-verbal four year old with autism experimenting with the xylophone. She kept hitting notes until she had figured out which notes she needed to play the melody of her favorite song. My students and I are so grateful. We were able to do so much exploration outdoors last spring- and it will continue this fall. We had a bubble day with our pre-school and kindergarten students and they loved it! We used all of the materials you were able to provide to us. We were also able to provide an inclusive experience for our preschooler with special needs. All students played and explored the bubbles together and it was amazing.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the flower building materials and insects provided a great connection to our spring unit on planting and pollination. Students were able to make flowers and see the \"parts\" of each flower. They then used the insects to pollinated the toy flowers they built. We then disected real flowers to find those same \"parts\" and then went outside to our outdoor garden, It was an amazing connection.
