Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are six to seven years old. They are smart and joyful, even when social circumstances are less than ideal for many of them. They have high expectations for me, and I want to live up to those expectations. When students tell me "You are the best teacher I've ever had in my entire life!" or "You are the best teacher on the planet Earth!", I feel obligated to rise up to those ideals and be the teacher they think I am.

My students are also part of a DLI program.

They are learning math, social science and more as they learn Spanish and/or English. They are brighter than the sun!

My Project

I want to create a classroom that welcome students to learn; a welcoming space that is available to my students for time-limited, self-regulation and more. In a safe space, my students can engage in calming activities to help manage their physical and emotional state when they are upset, in order to refocus and get back, ready to learn without having to leave my classroom. I will be using the Calm Down Center to teach social and emotional learning skills my students need to strengthen their ability to regulate their emotions. By allowing them to practice these skills in the classroom, they will be learning to strengthen relationship building skills and communication skills with students and teachers.
