My Project

D14 has 19 students total and our classroom is integrated with 7 students that receive specialized instruction. This school year and in the future, we would like to encourage more hands-on learning in our classroom. Research says that hands-on activities engage multiple senses, which strengthens memory and long-term recall. We started a new reading program that has integrated a lot of math and science within the learning targets.

I would like to implement more small group instruction in math like math games, addition and subtraction flashcards.

Along with, science experiences like using safety glasses to discover how a paleontologist would discover a fossil to help my students remember more of what they do compared to what they only read or hear. This could be done with more science supplies, math manipulatives and organization bins. My goals for this project is to use these supplies and manipulatives in Tier 2/3 instruction. I think this will help my students have a better focus in a smaller group setting; in hopes that they will get improved academic performance.
