Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager, energetic first graders who live in a large urban area and daily experience poverty. Some of my students are homeless and live in a local shelter. They have very little at home, sometimes not even the basics.

I want their learning environment to be full of resources and experiences They are eager to learn, and I want to set them on a path to life long learning success.

Children are not responsible for their circumstances, and I want to do everything possible to help them achieve.

My Project

My students don't have learning toys and opportunities that many children take for granted. The only opportunity they might have to build and create is the one that I give them. I want them to have hands-on opportunities to learn about three dimensional shapes and objects and build excitement for future learning. We have no hands-on building materials in the class.

I plan on creating a STEM station for students to rotate through.

This project requests one Build & Learn Geometric Shapes Kit, 3-D Magnet Builders Starter Set, and one Vehicle Building Engineering Center. With these kits, students can build a three dimensional structure such as a bridge or a small vehicle. Students can see how the bridge is held up by the arches and how the axles allow the wheels to move the car. The structures can start simple and get more complex.

Today's first graders are tomorrow's engineers. It is wonderful to see their faces light up at new opportunities. I would love for them to have the opportunity for hands-on building and designing like other children. Durable, reusable building materiala can be used by tomorrow's engineers for years to come.
