Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My children are the best! They love to learn and are so interested in new things especially reading, writing, and math. Due to their age, they need much practice to master their skills.
My students are in an inner city school where all receive free lunch and many speak a language other than English at home.
Many of their families work two to three jobs in order to make ends meet.
They are delightful and enjoy hands-on learning materials such as puzzles and hands on math materials that they can learn and remember the concrete examples before moving on to the abstract. These concrete materials will also help to improve their problem solving skills
My Project
These puzzles and concrete math materials that the children can touch and feel will not only help the children learn the skills needed for success in Kindergarten and later on in life, but at the same time will help develop their minds to be able to problem solve by using hands on materials involving numbers, colors and shapes.
By working in small groups with these challenging puzzles and number, color and shape materials, the children will also learn how to work together and other important social skills and will be able to help each other to learn the specific skill.
The is a win win opportunity for all the children. For the children who speak another language, this will give the the extra practice to learn English.
