My students need hands on materials such as magnetic stem building blocks, engineering building sets, origami creative designs, and hands on letter tiles!
My students are eager to learn. My students are always asking, "what are we learning today." I teach in a community school that often has struggling families within our walls. Our school is always looking to bring our families together to support one another but it is often hard with limited resources and man power. My second graders are constantly thinking of others, as I am constantly thinking how I can help them become successful learners.
I want to spark curiosity about science, technology, engineering, and math with these STEM activities!
My students are often hesitant to partake in risky learning. My second graders come from a small community and are sheltered to the many opportunities in math and science. These stem activities will help the kids better understand problem solving with other students and learning about the world around them.
My Project
All of my second graders are eager to dive into learning. I have 6 students with ADHD and hands on learning is a must for all of my students. My students come from a small community and are unable to expand their knowledge by experiencing a variety of activities. Many students do not leave their house and only view science as experiments in a lab. In my classroom the hands on stem activities will give the children an opportunity to explore through engineering, building, and designing with their own two hands.
Students will be encouraged to experiment, tinker, explore, observe, and problem solve with hands on stem activities.
Some of my students do not have the fine motor skills to even be able to cut. We will use the origami paper and design set as a center during morning work. Each child will be able to practice reading directions and work with their hands. Also, my students will use the alphabet and phonemic awareness linking letter cubes to build their sight words during language arts. The Magnetic Building Sticks Building Blocks Set, will be used as a morning tub so kids can start their day in a creative way.
My students have a skewed view on science and math. I want to change that! All of these interactive stem activities will provide active participation from all of my learners. My second graders will be able to take risks and problem solve everyday. Every child in my classroom will be able find out how things work through fun hands-on projects. These building activities will help students start their day in a positive way.
