I teach twenty second graders. I have a variety of learners in my classroom. One thing they love to do is be read to. I enjoy reading aloud everyday because they thrive on words, new vocabulary, and new stories. My class has a lot of energy. It is very hard for them to sit still for a long period of time. Out of my twenty young students I have one student who is on grade level in reading. I do not have any students who are on grade level in math. The gap of achievement is very real in my classroom. My students need to work twice as hard in order to catch up to their peers. My goal this year is to teach all my students how to read. This will be a skill they will use for the rest of their life. I have eight students with ADHD, six students who are English language learners, four special education students, and one student who is above grade level. My students need excitement and motivation to learn.
