Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal for this project is to create a multi sensory meaningful learning experience that will assist students with transferring what they learned during ELA, Math, and SEL from their working memory into their long term memory. By providing the tools to practice and apply the skills learned in the classroom.
Both ELA, and math manipulatives, like the phonics and sentence building sets, are tools the students could use independently or with a partner to allow them multiple opportunities to explore, collaborate, practice, and apply the skills they have learned to develop a deeper understanding of the content.
They will also feel more confident, willing to participate in rich classroom discourse during math, or take risks when reading and writing independently.
The books will be used for read alouds and become a wonderful addition to our diverse classroom library allowing students to relate, make connections, or develop an understanding of differences.
The social-emotional items, like the fidget tubes, would be a helpful addition to our calm corner assisting students with self regulation, and returning back to the learning environment.
Although our classroom is big in size we have no closets or places to for storage. Therefore several items would be used for planning purposes to keep classroom supplies organized and readily available in one location (copies, Small groups, centers, weekly lesson materials) this will assist with keeping the momentum going.
My students are a wonderful group of 19. They are willing to take risks and work hard each day. I know that each item on our list would allow them the opportunity they deserve to continue to learn and grow.
