Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 4th and 5th-grade students are preparing for California science assessments while developing curiosity about how the world works. With hands-on mini science kits, students will review key Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) concepts through engaging experiments that bring science to life.

In our classroom, students learn science best when they can touch, test, and explore ideas for themselves.

As we review important California science standards this spring, I want my students to experience science as real scientists do, through investigation, experimentation, and discovery.

My class includes enthusiastic 4th and 5th-graders who are eager to understand how Earth systems, energy, matter, and ecosystems work. Many of these concepts can be difficult to fully grasp through textbooks alone. Students need opportunities to see scientific ideas in action.

To help reinforce our learning, I am requesting mini science investigation kits that students can use in small groups during NGSS review lessons. Each kit will contain materials for short hands-on investigations aligned with California standards, such as:

Earth’s spheres (lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere)

Energy transfer and simple engineering challenges

Weathering and erosion models

Ecosystems and food chains

Matter and physical changes

These mini kits allow students to rotate through science stations, testing ideas, recording observations, and discussing evidence just like real scientists. Instead of simply memorizing facts, students will practice scientific thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Hands-on review activities help students build confidence before assessments and deepen their understanding of NGSS concepts. When students experiment with materials and see results for themselves, science becomes exciting, meaningful, and memorable.

Together, we can help our students see themselves as the scientists and problem-solvers of tomorrow.
