My Project

Every person who studies a career in science or engineering has had classroom experiences that inspired them. Our Title I school is very resource-challenged and we have created an introduction to engineering and computer science class that needs hands-on lab materials.

I have the good fortune of teaching students who historically have been written off by others.

I am a STEM teacher in one of the most impoverished areas of Georgia but I teach students of limitless potential. I instruct students who are incredibly passionate and powerful and who attend a Title I charter school. Over 95% of my students participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program, but they come to school with a passion for learning that rivals any socioeconomic group.

My Project

The kits that we are requesting will allow my students to have a direct learning experience with the engineering concepts that I teach.

For example, the 4K video production camera will allow me to incorporate audio and video production instruction to provide our scholars with useful skills in our digital society.

The roller coaster, Hot Wheels, and Gravity Run sets will grant our scholars an exciting way to explore forces and gravity.

The Euler's disk will allow students to learn about the physics of optics in a fun manner.

The Spin Art and 3D printing filament will allow students to incorporate creative art and design into their learning experiences.

As a former engineer who left the industry to teach middle school science, I believe that our society needs more students to have a mastery of science and technology.

Specifically, I have a personal goal of seeing 100 of my students become engineers.

The requested materials will play a large role in making science fun for my students so they can "Do Engineering."
