Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What comes to mind when you hear the words "math class?" It might bring feelings of anxiety, fear, or a sense of boredom, but it doesn't have to!! Math can be fun with the use of hands on, interactive activities!
My students attend a Title I school in Georgia.
Our school is predominately made up of Hispanic students. Many of my students are English Language Learners (ELL) and really benefit from "out of the box" learning and hands-on activities. They are very hard working kids and strive to make themselves and their families proud.
My Project
I am requesting hands on manipulatives and activities to help my students better understand mathematical and science concepts. Specifically, we need magnetic fraction bars, student sets of fraction bars, fraction work station kits, base ten blocks, and a solar system activity kit. We have limited resources and would really benefit from some extra support. I would love to use the manipulatives and activities during work stations and in small group instruction. With these hands on activities and manipulatives, students will be able to visually see the mathematical and science concepts, rather than hearing about them through lectures or videos, which will ultimately lead to a more enjoyable work and learning environment.
These manipulatives would be a wonderful addition to our classroom because they would encourage active learning and understanding of difficult concepts.
My students would be thrilled to have such great resources available in our classroom.
