This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a school where majority of my young scholars come from low income, single parent homes. We are a Title I school. With that being said, additional funds for much needed classroom supplies and manipulatives, are limited. My students have such a strong desire to learn and I want to make sure my classroom environment is engaging. I am passionate about ensuring that all children have access to a quality education, regardless of their economic status.
My Project
The requested materials will help my students explore math concepts and develop a greater understanding of math. Due to COVID-19, the education gaps are more apparent and these manipulatives are needed to scaffold and differentiate math lessons. Many of my students are visual and kinesthetic learners. Providing the hands-on experience will create an engaging environment for them to become excited about learning math. Having these materials help make abstract ideas complete for students. These items will also build students' confidence by giving them a way to test and confirm their reasoning.
