My students need 14 different math manipulatives from Lakeshore Learning, such as geometric shapes, hands on math centers, counting games, number books, tactile numbers, counting manipulatives, and magnetic numbers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a kindergarten teacher at a Title I elementary school. Our school is located in a high poverty area. Most of the children that attend our school are from families with low-income. These students have very little, if any, opportunities and resources to receive hands-on experiences outside of the classroom setting.
All of the children in my classroom can benefit greatly by having an opportunity to learn new concepts with a hands-on approach. ¼ of my students are Hispanic, ½ of them are African American, and the other ¼ are either white or biracial. ½ of my students have never been in a classroom setting, nor are they familiar with hands-on learning and the use of manipulative's.
Having a literacy-based math center in my classroom would be a great benefit for all of the students. This center would provide a fun learning experience for all students to learn basic shapes, colors, numbers, etc with a hands-on approach. This center would be visited several times a day by all of the students. This center will need several manipulative's such as: flash cards, puzzles, games, and manipulative's to increase counting and the creation of number sets, etc. My students need 14 different math manipulative's, such as geometric shapes, hands on math centers, counting games, number books, tactile numbers, counting manipulative's, and magnetic numbers.
I would love for my students to have a literacy-based math center which would enable them to grow at their own pace more effectively. You can help these students gain effective, life-long learning experiences that will allow them to become better problem solvers.
