My students need math manipulatives such as protractors, rulers and fractions cubes to get more involved in their learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what is was like trying to decipher how to find the value of x in a complicated equation? What about learning the meaning behind the quadratic equation? If you are like many of my students, the language of math is foreign and confusing.
My students live in a high poverty area and 100% receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many are in charge of their younger siblings when they get home and consequently school is the only place for them to be a kid and to have fun learning. Because they have limited contact with their parents, who sometimes both work more than one job, they rely on their peers and teachers more than the average student. They have shining personalities and I love that they share their lives with me at school. I know that I cannot fix all of their problems at home, but what I can do is make school a safe learning environment where all students can learn and feel accepted. Our school is very old and rundown but with some new materials to use we can still be productive and active learners! Please consider donating and showing support to some great kids with unfortunate circumstances.
My Project
Middle school pre-algebra builds the foundation for all of high school and beyond mathematics. I want to show my students how fun math can be while teaching them important skills at the same time. My goal is to teach students without them even knowing it.
I want to use these math manipulatives and supplies so that I can be more of a facilitator of learning in my classroom. If the students can derive formulas from their own knowledge of mathematics, they are more likely to remember and understand them. Do you know how to derive the quadratic formula or the formula for measures of angles in regular polygons? My students do, and it's due to great math manipulatives!
There are so many new and concrete ways to teach math now that students should be experiencing.
Math doesn't have to be a foreign language. If we have the proper tools to teach students, all students truly can learn and be successful. There are very few students who just "get" math without learning the meaning behind what they are doing. These math manipulatives will help the students understand what they are learning at a crucial point in their math education.
