This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our Title I special education resource classroom, my first and second-grade students are developing foundational math skills. Many of these students need extra support with number sense, operations, and place value—skills that are critical for long-term success in math. Traditional paper-and-pencil methods often don’t meet their diverse learning needs. That’s where hands-on tools make a difference.

Students in special education often need concepts broken down and presented in ways that match their learning styles.

In our Title I school, families may not have access to extra resources at home, so having the right tools in the classroom is essential. Your support helps my students engage with math in meaningful, joyful ways—building confidence and a love for learning. The Didax Math Manipulative Kit for Grades 1 and 2 includes essential materials like base ten blocks, number lines, counters, dice, place value charts, and more—everything I need to turn math lessons into engaging, multi-sensory experiences. These manipulatives allow students to build, move, group, and visualize numbers and operations in a way that makes sense to them. Whether they’re exploring how numbers are built or practicing addition and subtraction with regrouping, students gain a deeper understanding through touch and interaction.

By incorporating these tools into small group and individual instruction, I can better differentiate for my students and create lessons that are developmentally appropriate and accessible. With these manipulatives, math becomes something students can see, touch, and truly understand.
