This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are scientists. Our students are mathematicians. Our students are readers and authors. Our students are explorers. My students make discoveries each and every day. Our students are budding athletes.

It is our mission to provide our students with a challenging and inquiry-based STEM curriculum to maximize individual potential and ensure that our students succeed in a global community.

Our goal is to expose students to as many learning opportunities that will prepare them for the future as possible, all while bringing to the forefront ideas and concepts that they may not have considered before.

Our school is a place filled with family. Not only do we serve and have families who entrust us with their children, we have our own family. This family includes our classroom families, our school community family, and our family of staff. We consider each day as an opportunity to learn something new and support our family members on their path to success.

My Project

Students need hands-on learning to make the learning real and relevant. This is especially true when students are trying to grasp science concepts. In 5th grade, students learn a lot about the environment. However, we have to break through a lot of misconceptions students have had from their life experiences. One of these misconceptions is that plants get some of their energy from the soil. By observing air plants, and learning through the "See it grow plant lab", students are able to cast these misconceptions away, and learn where our energy really comes from! These materials can help students understand where the energy for ALL ecosystems starts - the sun.

Hands-on learning also makes the learning more fun!

Students get a chance to care for plants and watch them grow. They also get to experience air plants, a type of plant that most students do not have much experience with!
