My Students

I teach in the 2nd to the largest school district in the country. Due to the size of my city and the industries that boost our economy, our city is also a revolving door. It is one of those melting pots of the United States. Most of my students come from single parent homes; some have been placed with foster parents. They are unique in that they know they are different, but they want so much to be like their typical peers. My goal is always to teach to the individual strength to encourage the improvement of weaknesses.

In my class, the exceptionalities range from severe developmental delay, other health Impairments, to specific learning disabilities.

I also teach 3 students on the autism spectrum. Ten percent of the students I service demonstrate inappropriate behaviors for their age equivalent.

My Project

During the school day, students are in need of being able to move while they learn. Granting them the opportunity to have these hands on movement materials gives them this opportunity. During my 13 years of teaching, I have observed the significant impact of hands on activities has on the learning of students.

These activities will open another door of learning and creativity for the students in my classroom.

Students with disabilities sometimes struggle with sitting in a seat and listening to the teacher facilitate. Being able to use their hands while they learn aids in the growth process of learning.
