Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am traveling from one school to another this school year. I will serve both schools. I have 21 students in my afternoon classroom for the 2018-2019 school year with a wide range of abilities, needs, and concerns. My students are in a low income/high poverty school in which more than 75% of the students receive free or reduced-price meals. I am in the process of setting up my new classroom and in need of some items. I want to make my new classroom as equipped and exciting to be in as the morning school classroom.
Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.
When children have a strong foundation of learning, they are able to stay on track to remain in school, graduate, and pursue post-secondary education and training to successfully transition into adulthood.
Children make this room their home for however long they stay and miss it dearly when they move on. No matter who enters through my classroom doors, they become part of our school family.
My Project
Educational items such as magnetic dry erase boards, magnetic letters, mini erasers, and letter tiles will be used for literacy stations/small groups.
Magnetic dry eraser boards can be used for both writing and building with magnetic letters.
Students can build their first and last names, make words that begin with the letter of the week, and distinguish between vowels and consonants.
The special magnetic markers will be great, as it will be harder to lose them. They will stay stuck to the magnetic board.
The letter tiles can be used for sorting letters with straight lines vs. curved lines, to order alphabetically, and to make words.
