Hands-On Literacy: Magnetic Tiles to Empower Structured Reading

My Project

My students are bright, determined learners who benefit from structured, multisensory instruction to unlock the power of reading. Many of them face language-based learning challenges, including dyslexia, and require explicit, systematic support to develop foundational literacy skills. That’s why I use the Wilson Reading System for students who require intense 1:1 or small group intervention. Wilson Reading is a research-based program rooted in the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is designed to meet the needs of struggling readers through direct, cumulative, and multisensory instruction.

To follow the program with fidelity, I’m requesting Wilson Language Training magnetic tiles.

These tiles are a crucial and essential component of the Wilson Reading System, enabling students to physically manipulate sounds and word parts as they learn to decode and encode. This hands-on experience helps reinforce phonemic awareness, spelling patterns, and word structure—skills that are critical for reading success.

With these magnetic tiles, my students will be able to: Build and break apart words during phonics lessons, Practice sound-symbol correspondence in a tactile way, Strengthen their understanding of syllable types and word structure, Gain confidence as they see their progress in real time, Every tile represents a step toward literacy, independence, and academic success.
