My Project

My role as a science teacher is not only to teach the content outlined in our curriculum but to ensure that the students in my classroom can make real-world connections to the ideas we discuss in class. Here in Norfolk, Virginia, we live at the very end of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Without the use of models, my students have trouble grasping what this means regarding water runoff and pollution.

Through watershed models, my students will be able to see firsthand how water moves from the headwaters down to the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Lab-Aids Modeling and Investigating Watersheds Lab kits will reach 125 students and allow them to learn a variety of learning targets: watershed topography, environmental impacts of water runoff and pollution, water quality, weathering and erosion, and so much more. My students will be able to learn these concepts through tactile and visual learning styles while also reflecting on what they learned and how it relates to their own lives.
