My students need hands-on materials rather than paper and pencil tasks to better meet their learning styles. They need 2 Osmo Genius kits and 4 additional games.
Our classroom is in a rural area without access to museums or many interactive learning environments. The special education staff attempts to make these spaces available to students while at school.
My students receive special education for a variety of special needs.
Some students have fairly simple learning disabilities, but many have more severe conditions, such as cognitive disabilities, physical conditions due to cerebral palsy and spina bifida, behaviorally challenged, and autism. Many of these conditions have altered the way the children learn. This requires creativity in making learning a hands-on experience in which the students will want to participate and learn.
My Project
While iPads have changed learning in my classroom, I would like students to have even more access to interactive learning. The Osmo and it's unique way of mixing play with work will do just that!
The Osmo is an amazing gaming system that fosters creative thinking and collaborative learning.
When paired with an iPad, the Osmo transforms the area in front of the iPad into an interactive environment. The students will use physical objects in the area in front of the tablet to solve puzzles, spell words, and even draw. My students have shown that they need hands-on activities to make learning stick. They will be able to practice reading and math skills in a fun and interactive way with actual objects to manipulate rather than just the screen.
