Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a public school located on the southwest side of Chicago, IL. The parents and members of our community are very involved with our school, the students' education, and are very supportive of all of the teachers. Our school staff and parents have high expectations for all of the students and we take pride in our students' accomplishments. The kindergarten students are active participants in all of our school activities and are eager to learn and explore while they are in school.
My Project
Students have a better understanding of what they are learning while using hands-on materials. In order to continue to allow all of my kindergarten students the opportunity to use various math and literacy materials, I will need enough materials to create individual packs for each child. I am in the process of preparing individual math and literacy kits for each kindergarten student to use throughout the school day. These materials will be used this year and for many years to come.
Each student's math kit will include dice, ten frames, counters, Unifix cubes, pattern blocks, sorting buttons, and dry erase boards.
Each literacy kit will include decodable books, letters stamps, and magnetic letters. Students will keep these materials at their individual stations to have on hand throughout each school day. These materials will allow for continued engagement and academic growth.
