My Students

I teach a third grade GATE class in an urban school district. My students are some of the sweetest, funniest and most creative humans on the planet!

These amazing kids have a thirst for knowledge and learning like I've never seen before.

They are ready to be challenged and pushed to think outside the box in new and innovative ways. These kids aren't interested in simply reading and answering questions (although there are times we need to do that). Rather, they want to build, engineer and innovate.

Not only are these kids ready to learn in new ways, they have a passion to get outside the classroom to change the world for the better! These are our future doctors, engineers, architects, medical researchers and scientists. I am fully convinced they will use their learning to make the world a better place.

My Project

These materials will enhance the science and social studies learning in my class in many ways. Students who are able to put their hands on the content, rather than just read about it, retain information and are more likely to use it in the future.

My class has many innovative young girls who need exciting ways to break into the scientific world where they are largely underrepresented.

By giving students an opportunity to engineer in a cooperative group setting, they not only learn to work as a team, they have fun doing it! This project will prepare my students for the real world in ways that I wouldn't be able to do without the materials.
