Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in the Central Valley of California. It is in a rural neighborhood in Merced. The vast majority of my students come from low-income families and our school population is quite diverse, including a large number that are second language learners. Almost all of our students receive free lunch.
My classroom consists of transitional kindergartners and kindergartners, who have developed a love for learning during this important first year of school.
My students are amazing young learners who love to use hands-on manipulatives to develop their learning whether it is emotional, social or academic. They are always striving to do their best. I just want to be that teacher that can make a difference in a child's life and provide them every opportunity to succeed!
My Project
These materials will directly benefit my students by providing them the opportunity to learn by doing. Our community outreach project is working with a local animal shelter that rescues dogs and cats. My veterinarian dress up, the kit and book will allow my students to pretend to be part of our community project. The alphabet hands-on manipulatives will allow the students to create the alphabet and use the locks for letter matching, while building their fine motor skills.
All of these materials directly correlate to our common core standards in building academic and social standards, while also increasing fine motor skills.
