Under normal circumstances, I think that my students are pretty special, but under the circumstances they are facing this year, I think my kiddos are rather extraordinary. Never in a million years did any of us ever dream of starting middle school in the way we have this year, completely virtual, due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. My students have started their very first year of middle school during this unprecedented time. They've had to transition from elementary to middle school, now having eight different teachers, instead of one, a block schedule where classes are nearly an hour and a half long, and where the rigor of their curriculum has stepped up as well, all while having to make the shift to learning, participating, and working together virtually.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to work in a hands on learning environment, during a time when most things are hands off due to the pandemic. In social studies class, we spend time working on activities and projects that require students to share a class set of materials which I provide to them. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus has made it such that sharing of such classroom sets of materials is not safe, so therefore, in order for students to be able to work hands on with these same types of projects and activities, once transitioned into hybrid classes, each student needs their very own set of materials that only they use.
Funding of this project will allow me to safely provide hands on learning opportunities to my students who are currently, during remote learning, only participating through digital means.
