My Project

This year I would like to take a step away from screens in the classroom as much as possible. Although technology can be a great tool for learning, I would like to take the small time I have with my students to build language through hands-on, collaborative games and activities. I teach multi-lingual learners and I think the best way to develop language (and most skills) is through cooperative play.

Unfortunately, getting materials for these activities is now often more expensive than handing a student a Chromebook, but I believe a lot more worthwhile.

Your donation will help create these moments of hands-on learning.

These materials include some pre-packaged reading and language games, as well as materials for games I would like to create. For example, I would like to use the bowling pins for various phonics and vocab recognition games. There are some art supplies to create engaging activities that are aligned to the content we are teaching. There are full-body movement activities, such as the large floor Elkonin boxes for segmenting and phonics lessons. I've also asked for a small portable bluetooth speaker in hopes of not having to turn on the projector every time we want to play learning focused music and for using our outdoor classroom.

English language learners can be less likely to outwardly participate than their peers out of fear of using the language incorrectly. These materials will help create engaging lessons and promote participation in language acquisition activities.

We are excited for a playful year in a fun-filled classroom this year. Thank you for your help!
