With many new students coming in from Puerto Rico. My students need extra help and support with school supplies and snacks. The students at my school come from a working class neighborhood that is very well integrated. They are every color of the rainbow and come from multiple backgrounds. One thing that they have in common is that many of their families are working multiple jobs and having trouble making ends meet.
Teachers, counselors, and other staff members frequently purchase basic need items for students who are not able to receive them from their families.
This school uses a program of catching students doing the right thing. There is an ongoing conversation about "being a bucket filler" by doing good things. They receive incentive "bucks" for good behavior and deeds.
My Project
I need new encouraging hands-on activities to help students from Puerto Rico feel like they have things look forward to. We need new environmental science projects to do in the classroom. With many hands-on experiments students will be able to look at things and explore them on their own. Students will learn about the rock cycle, plants, different types of rocks, volcanoes and more. My students need a planter area I’m in a classroom so they can see how things grow. They will be able to look through the terrarium and be able to see the parts of a plant understand how little Flexi environment if we get rid of all of the trees. Students will understand what plants need to survive. These plants will also be feds to our classroom pet rat. Many of my students have allergies and asthma, the plants will help clean the air for them.
Science can be fun and engaging when learning with Hands on activities.
I think hands-on learning activities will help benefit my students scores in science and get them ready for the FCAT. I learn best with my hands and I think my students do too. With these experiments students will be able to learn science and understand how different things can affect the environment.
