Hands-on Engaging Home Activities for the Whole Family!

Help me give my students the ability to have fun at home activities that can be checked out that are not technology based for learning and engagement during school closures and quarantine.

My Students

"How does this apply to me? When will I ever use this?" These are very common words I hear when teaching science and math lessons. I spend hours designing the learning plan only to find I do not have the resources to help them apply it to real situations. Engaging hands-on activities in STEM that can be done at home during a quarantine could really help with learning loss.

Several of our students come from transient or unstable homes.

Eighty-five percent of our Title I school qualify for free or reduced price lunches because they come from low-income homes. Only forty percent of our school has Internet access at home, making it difficult for them to have technology experience with rigor, aside from mind numbing video game systems. These kids are behind in all aspects because during Covid-19 the kids did not have access to learning materials at home. They are builders by nature, and love to create anything that is challenging. Having resources that can be used at home during breaks or wile in quarantine can be the catalyst to help them compete in the global community.

My Project

Too many times the kids come back from Quarantine having done nothing! I would love to have a school library with hands-on games and activities that can be check out when they are quarantined at home. These games teach concepts that are STEM related and they do not need technology in order to enjoy them with the whole family. It will enable them to play with siblings of all ages and parents. To stop the spread of the disease, the games are durable and easy to sanitize for the next family!
