My Students

Understanding algebra is difficult for many students. They need a concrete way to see the relationship between equations and word problems.

I teach in a school with a diverse population.

Our students come from middle to lower income families. Our school is in its second year of operation. It is a beautiful facility, but we have very few supplemental materials because of severe budget cuts.

My Project

With the Hands-On Equations materials, my students will be able to set up equations in a concrete way. The system will help them learn how to solve equations. It will also help them understand how to set up equations for word problems. Students will use the game pieces to physically solve equations.

Math is an essential part of everyday life.

Strong math skills help students succeed in school. Good math skills are necessary to prepare for so many jobs that are in demand in the world that we live in today. I want my students to leave my classroom well-prepared to continue their education and eventually pursue any career that might interest them.
