My Students

I have some of the sweetest little smiles in my room, and I love them all so much. We are located in a rural area school and do our very best to get the kids what they need, but we need help! This year, we have many goals and need a few resources to help us achieve them.

Our kids are eager to learn and already want to improve this crazy world we live in.

Our future is in good hands. These little hands are in my room and waiting for our help.

My Project

I have learned that students need concrete examples to help them understand different math skills—the more they can see and touch - the better and quicker they know. Students also do a lot better when they are having fun in math.

Math manipulatives such as algebra and fraction tiles, and games like Fraction City, Fraction War, and Fence It In, will help keep the kids' minds and hands-on math!

It took a few years of teaching to realize that the kids I teach need to see and touch examples because they struggle with abstract ideas at this early age.

Having visual and tactile manipulatives to help the kids better imagine the math stories will help them analyze what operations should be completed and how to solve their stories. Games are a fantastic tool, as well, for the kids to practice skills they have learned in different contexts. Standing desks help two of my students who need that extra physical aspect of movement to understand.
