Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are unique individuals who are all coming from very different circumstances. They are eager to get to school and I am just as excited to see them every day. This year, I will be teaching kindergarten. I am so excited to have a whole new group of young children and a diverse class. My children are struggling readers whom I am pushing to meet grade level before the end of June. I am looking for the basics to help my children and their families during this difficult time of learning. Many children do not have the basic materials to help them with their learning.
I teach at a inner city school in NJ where the majority of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Despite so many hardships they face, they are eager to come to school and learn. They look for me every morning and wonder where am I if I am not in the classroom. I love to reassure them that I am here for them.
My Project
The manipulatives are individualized. This will help give each student a set of manipulatives for learning. During this past year we have learned about how sharing materials and manipulatives spreads germs. I do not want to see any of my children suffer this year. I hope that by starting this project, I will be able to give the children a set of manipulatives that will be just for them to use. It will help keep the germs to a minimum.
By individualizing manipulatives, children will feel more responsible.
They will have something that is just for their own use. They won't have to share with anyone else and it will be just theirs. If they need to be home, they will have the opportunity to take their materials home with them to help them complete their school work.
