Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk in to my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. The joy of pure wonder. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
I teach at a Title I school in New Mexico where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive backpacks full of food for the weekend, and our school runs a food pantry for our families. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their absolute best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
The materials and supplies I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The sound panels will be applied to my vaulted ceilings to restrict echo and noise. The ceilings are pretty, but boy do they create needless sound ambience that can get in the way of classroom procedures. The yakker tracker will help train students with visual queues appropriate noise levels for specific tasks. The small group organizer will be put to work with my Yearbook editing teams. The timer will be used so that my students know how much time is left, as it is not a good practice to shut off students without warning.
The donations to this project will help improve my students' learning setting to work for and with them while trying new things and becoming young adults.
By implementing a learning center model, my students will begin to see themselves as true learners, engaged with the content, and creating content from their learning. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long learners. As the teacher, I have done extensive research on learning centers at the high school level, and preparing students for the world of collaborative work places. I truly need your support to make this dream of mine a reality. Thanks!
