Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My scholars love our classroom pet, Josh, the bearded dragon. He has provided endless amounts of hands-on science experiences, social-emotional learning lessons, and so much love to our classroom! Since Josh travels between two classrooms, we need a size appropriate habitat for him, now that he is no longer a juvenile. Josh needs a terrarium, lamps, light bulbs, watering system, and basking rock. We have hopes to set up a live bioactive habitat to teach the scholars about symbiotic relationships, plants, insects, reptiles, and ecosystems all while fostering the best enviornment for Josh that is closest to his natural habitat.

The impact Josh has on the scholars is invaluable, he helps us learn in such unique and impactful ways.

I teach an amazing class of hard-working, resilient, and energetic boys. Watching them engage with Josh is a joy. Josh helps the class with emotional and body dysregulation in such an astounding way! My hope is that he builds a love for science, learning, and nature that will carry with the scholars throughout their life.
