My students have a hard time understanding math concepts when using workbooks. They enjoy hands on materials where they get a better grasp of the concepts being taught.
My students are 4th and 5th graders who are eager to learn.
They are enthusiastic about coming to class every day. When it comes to remembering and explaining new concepts, they tend to get very frustrated and then give up. They love getting involved with hands-on activities where they can see how geometry, measurement, and all math concepts work.
My Project
I am asking for several math activities. They include manipulatives that cover most of the core curriculum skill that these students are required to learn. Some are for individual use and others are group activities. These students get excited when they come into class and realize they will be using manipulatives and not worksheets. The look on their faces are priceless. I would like to do this every day, but right now I am limited on what I can do. It takes time to make materials. I am hoping the students will be able to receive these materials so that they may continue to learn with manipulative and not worksheets.
My goal is for my students, who learn differently than others, to receive the same education as everyone else.
Where they to will be able to reach their highest potential. I will continue to revise the traditional way of learning for these students because they deserve the best.
