My students need activities, games and toys to learn phonics for reading and writing and a Jammin' Gym to get them moving and improve their listening skills.
I teach Kindergarten through second grade English language learners. This is my first year teaching Kindergarten ELLs and it has been quite the learning experience - for me! I am learning every day what works best with this grade. They love coming to my class in small groups and are always willing to try something new. I also teach middle schoolers about running a business.
My students are so excited to come to ENL class that they sometimes get in trouble from their classroom teacher for racing to the door when I arrive.
Being in a small group allows the students to take risks and build confidence so they can return to their large class equipped with the necessary tools to do class work with all the students.
My Project
My students are working hard to build their phonemic awareness and phonics skills in order to become better readers. These materials are necessary to give my Kindergarten (and Beginning ELL) students an opportunity to practice phonics and letter recognition. The learning locks help them identify vowel sounds, blends and digraphs. The pop and match game will be fun for all the students while learning initial and final sounds while competing with each other. The Jammin' Gym will get the kids up and moving while reinforcing listening and pronunciation skills.
Phonics mastery will prepare my students to become successful readers.
All these activities and games will make phonics fun and will give them many different ways to practice.
