Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I love my students! They are friendly and have diverse talents. All of them have an eligibility for moderate-severe autism.
One student is nonverbal and has a beautiful smile.
He can not read or write due to the severity of the autism. He needs more visual aids.
One student can not express herself in English. She would need a communication board and more visual aids.
One student is bilingual. He can easily code-switch from Spanish to English.
One student is proficient in speaking English, but has trouble reading and spelling correctly. He needs visuals and repetitions of words/ repeated readings.
One student is bilingual. She knows more English, than Spanish, but she has a difficult time expressing her thoughts in comprehensible sentences.
My Project
These materials would make a difference in my students' learning during their return to campus and hybrid schedule. Due to the hybrid schedule, my students would need maximum support when the Adaptive Physical Education teacher comes to my small classroom. The school gym would be off limits due to cleaning and disinfecting due to COVID.
Our school's new hybrid schedule restricts my students from physically moving from one class to another for Physical Education.
Therefore my students would be restricted. They would be learning P.E. from online/home and a partial/return to campus on a weekly basis.
For P.E. on campus, my students would be restricted to stay in class and exercise. The giant mat would be protection from the linoleum classroom floors. The wheeled carts would hold all of the equipment and it would allow accessibility to roll it out to the track & field, if it is available. The air pumps would be used for the sports balls. All of these items would be used frequently on a weekly basis.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
