The biography section in our school library needs an extreme makeover! This section is currently filled with books that are extremely out of date and not appealing to our teenage patrons. One of our more obscure titles is "Gustavus Adolphus the Great", a biography published in 1940. We would love to see our biography section filled with new books that our students would read. Presently, our students do not have access to biographies about people that are of interest to them and most of our biographies are tomes. Our student population is diverse - 21.4% are on free or reduced lunches and 250 students are ELL (English Language Learners). In February of 2001, a beautiful new library was built at our school thanks to the passage of a 1991 school bond. Unfortunately, in the last few years our district and state library funds have dwindled to 70 cents per student while our enrollment has grown in the last four years by 500 students. Our students need access to readable, current, high interest biographies. We would like to purchase as many biographies as possible to add to our collection. Perhaps you were wondering who is Gustavus Adolphus the Great? He was a 17th century Swedish leader, called the "Lion of the North". Oddly enough, this book has never been checked out!
