This technology allows students to hear metronome pulses and subdivisions so that they can work on performing with a strong sense of pulse, something that is essential to music-making. This technology also allows students to hear the difference between equal temperament tuning and pure temperament tuning (just intonation), so that they can work on performing more in tune. Equal temperament is the tuning that a piano would use whereas just intonation is something that instrumentalists and singers use to sound more in tune. In order to teach this in the past, I would talk about how many cents to adjust a pitch up or down within a chord. Now, I can not only tell the students, but show them and allow them to hear the difference for themselves.\r\nThe keyboard that you helped to purchase has a transposition function which allows me or any student to play the keyboard at a transposed level at the touch of a button. This allows a French horn student, for example, to hear what their part should sound like much more quickly than if I or another student had to transpose and play those transposed pitches accurately in time. This is not just a time-saver but an actual real solution to an issue that happens in the class quite often. Now, instead of having to pick up an instrument or transpose in my mind to demonstrate a musical passage, I can quickly assist the student or section with the press of a button. It not only helps me to teach more efficiently and effectively, but it allows the student direct access to the aural models that they need in order to succeed. In the pursuit of musical excellence and knowledge, this tool will help us progress more quickly and help generations of students for years to come. \r\nPlease know that your generosity and support has made a huge difference in our classroom.
