Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in East San Jose. A majority of my students are first-generation Americans with hardworking immigrant parents. Seventy percent of the students at my school are receiving free or reduced-priced lunch.
I teach a wonderful group of Kindergarten students.
My students are hard working and enthusiastic learners. They are easily motivated and enjoy attending school every day. They are always excited to try and learn new concepts. My students inspire me every day to be a better teacher.
My Project
My students and I live in the Bay Area and we love it! I love that we live in a community that consist of a variety of Asian and Hispanic cultures. I love exposing my students to different cultures. It teaches students the value of respecting and embracing people who are different. Every year our Kindergarten students have a Chinese/Vietnamese New Year Parade. All students dress up in traditional Chinese and Vietnamese outfits with musical instruments. We parade through each classroom and wish students and teachers a happy New Year in four different languages: Chinese, Vietnamese, English and Spanish. This tradition has been ongoing for the past 15 years at our school. Sadly, the outfits that we currently have are old and torn. My students need new outfits to help keep this tradition going strong. Your donation with help create life long memories. I know this because former students in the classes we visit tell us all the time that they remember doing the same thing when they were in Kindergarten.
