Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are incredible. I have 24 motivated English Language Learners who are eager to learn. My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds with limited resources available to them. We are a Title I, Performance Improvement School, with one hundred percent of our students on the free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support their families.
Though their outside environment may not be conducive to learning, my students have an insatiable love of learning.
I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.
My Project
At our school we try to recognize and celebrate all cultures. Many of our students are from Asian countries so celebrating the new year is a special occasion. We pass out red envelopes for good luck as well as display red and yellow artwork throughout the school. These plates will decorate our classroom as well as outside the office. We will use the red cardstock to make red lanterns to hang for the new year.
School climate and school culture directly impact student success.
As a result, it is particularly important for the school culture (and the classroom culture) to reflect, acknowledge, and celebrate diversity.
The bags will be used for their crafts they make to give to their parents.
