My Project

My high school students are bright, resilient, and eager to learn, but they need consistent, tangible motivation to stay engaged and overcome high school pressures. My goal is to transform my classroom by creating a Positive Choice Center—a high-interest prize system—and a robust Sensory Toolkit to directly support their focus and participation. I use a ticket reward system where students earn tickets for everything from starting the Do Now on time to offering an insightful literary analysis or helping a peer. I will use the gumball machine to house fun, immediate incentives like koala pencil buddies and animal sticky notes, validating their small and large successes. Simultaneously, the stress balls, squishy toys, slinkys, and resin ducks will provide my students with safe, discreet outlets for nervous energy, enabling them to better manage stress and focus intently on complex texts and instruction.

This ticket system and these crucial tools will directly impact my students' involvement in the English classroom, fostering the engagement that is essential for deep literary analysis and skill building.

The system is designed to reward participation, community-building, and academic risk-taking, which are vital for a successful high school English class. The creative element of the button maker and vinyl stickers will further support this community by allowing them to make personalized rewards and class badges. By investing in this project, you are providing the high-interest motivation and necessary self-regulation support that empowers these young adults to participate more, feel less stressed, and ultimately achieve higher levels of reading, writing, and critical thinking.
