My Students

I teach K-6 general music and 5th grade band at a school south of Seattle where 89% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. A majority of our students are bilingual and thrive while bringing different cultures into our music classroom. I strive to provide music education that everyone can access, understand, and enjoy.

I came into my classroom this summer as a first year teacher, realizing that we are lacking in many materials in order to create an equal and opportune access to music education.

My goal is to create a fun-filled, functioning and equitable classroom for my students.

I am passionate and determined about providing these kids what they deserve in order to achieve success in the music classroom.

My Project

My students love to sing! We have been practicing using our singing voices all year without any instrumental accompaniment.

The guitar is the perfect mobile accompanying instrument for general music classes.

Students will be thrilled to sing along to the guitar which will, in turn, elevate the musical experience in the classroom. I think playing guitar with my students allows them to build their singing voices while also building their confidence. It is perfect for walking around the room and sitting on the floor with my young kiddos.
