I teach in a K-5 public school in New York City. My students are English Language Learners that come from over 30 countries and speak over 9 languages in their homes. My classroom lacks a document camera to help text come to life during shared and guided reading activities.
Help English Language Learners better connect to text with this document camera.
My classroom does not have the amount of big books to effectively read to my students, so the document camera is essential to connecting students to the text I am reading.
My students are eager to improve their academic English proficiency, and using technology is an excellent way to facilitate it.
Guided and shared reading is an activity that occurs almost daily in my classroom. A lack of big books makes it difficult to facilitate this learning, especially with the lower grades. Younger students have a hard time staying focused when they can not see the small print in an regular sized book. This document camera will allow all books to be shown enlarged on my whiteboard, and allow students to become engrossed in the larger than life text and pictures. Students want to learn, and this piece of technology will facilitate that and have a positive impact on learning in my classroom for years to come.
